Privacy policy
Last updated: 25 October 2026
This site is kept simple on purpose. There are no adverts, no analytics and no tracking, and the site itself doesn't set any cookies. Everything that collects or stores data is listed below.
Email newsletter
If you sign up for the free guides, the form sends your first name and email address to Kit (kit.com), the email service I use. They're used to send you the free guides and my newsletter, and nothing else. Kit also notes which page of this site you signed up on, so I can see which videos and posts bring people in.
You'll get a confirmation email first, and you're only added once you click the button in it. Every email has an unsubscribe link at the bottom, so you can stop them any time.
The form doesn't load any script from Kit. Nothing is sent to Kit and nothing is stored in your browser until you press the sign-up button.
Kit stores and processes your details on my behalf. Their privacy policy explains how they handle your data and your rights.
Cookies and local storage
Cookies and local storage are small bits of data a website saves in your browser. The law (the UK's PECR, and the EU's ePrivacy rules) treats them both the same way. Here's everything that can end up in your browser from this site.
| Name | Set by | What it's for | How long | Strictly necessary? |
|---|---|---|---|---|
theme (local storage) | This site | Remembers light or dark mode, only if you press the switch. Never leaves your device. | Until you clear it, or switch back to your device's setting | Yes: it only saves when you press the light/dark switch, so the site remembers your choice. It helps with readability and accessibility. |
__cf_bm (cookie) | Cloudflare, on this site and on Kit's | Tells people apart from bad bots, to keep the site and the sign-up form safe. Only set sometimes, and never used to track you. | 30 minutes | Yes: security |
cf_clearance (cookie) | Cloudflare | Only set if you're shown a "checking your browser" page. It remembers you passed, so you're not asked again straight away. | Up to 30 minutes | Yes: security |
YouTube player items (local storage and IndexedDB, names startingyt or ytidb) | YouTube (Google), on youtube-nocookie.com | Run the video player. Only saved if you press play on a video. | Set by YouTube; some last for months | No. Only after you choose to play a video |
Do you need to agree to cookies here? No, so there's no cookie banner. Cookies and storage that are strictly necessary, like security cookies, don't need consent under PECR. The theme setting is only saved when you press the light/dark switch, to remember the choice you made. This site has no analytics, advertising or tracking cookies. The one thing that isn't strictly necessary is the YouTube player, and it only loads when you press play. The note under every video says so.
If you visited before 25 October 2026, Kit's old form script may have saved an ID called ckid (and sometimescksubscribed-…) in your browser's local storage. The site doesn't use them any more, and you can delete them.
Clearing or blocking them
You can delete cookies and site data, or block them, in your browser's settings. Here's how in Chrome, Safari, Firefox and Edge. The site still works if you block them all. Light/dark mode just won't be remembered, and the security check may appear more often.
YouTube videos
Videos on this site show a picture from YouTube with a play button. Showing the picture means your browser fetches it from YouTube's image server, but nothing is saved on your device. YouTube's player only loads, in its privacy-enhanced mode (youtube-nocookie.com), when you press play. From then on YouTube's own privacy policy applies.
Hosting
The site is hosted on Cloudflare, which handles basic technical details like your IP address to deliver the pages and protect the site from attacks. That protection is where the Cloudflare cookies above come from.
Changes
If anything here changes, this page will be updated and the date at the top will change too.
